Kirkland Leads the Way in Mental Health Innovation: Unveiling Regional Crisis Response and a New Behavioral Health Center

Kirkland is proud to announce two groundbreaking initiatives designed to significantly enhance mental health support and crisis response services for our community and the wider region of north King County.

Firstly, we are excited about the launch of the Regional Crisis Response Agency (RCR), affectionately known as “racer.” This innovative collaboration unites the cities of Bothell, Kenmore, Kirkland, Lake Forest Park, and Shoreline in a concerted effort to provide cohesive and standardized mobile crisis response services across the five-city region. RCR is set to revolutionize the way mental health emergencies are handled; when a 911 call indicates a mental health crisis, RCR’s specially trained crisis responders will be dispatched alongside traditional first responders. Their approach prioritizes immediate, compassionate crisis intervention, de-escalation, and personalized follow-up, ensuring that those experiencing behavioral health challenges receive the care and support they need in their moment of crisis.

The second major development is the upcoming opening of a state-of-the-art behavioral health crisis response center in Kirkland’s Totem Lake neighborhood. Strategically located for easy freeway and hospital access, this center marks a significant advancement in our commitment to mental health care. Operated by Connections Health Solutions, a leader in behavioral health crisis management, the center is poised to offer a comprehensive range of services. From walk-in urgent care for mental health issues to extended support for individuals stabilizing from behavioral health or substance use crises, the facility is designed to meet a broad spectrum of needs. Slated to open its doors in 2024, the center will welcome all community members, regardless of their insurance status or the severity of their condition, providing a much-needed refuge for those in crisis.

These initiatives represent Kirkland’s dedication to fostering a community that values and prioritizes mental health and wellbeing. By investing in these services, we are taking significant steps toward ensuring that every member of our community has access to the support and care they deserve.
